CERN is an international organisation for collaborative research into high-energy particles, using the world’s largest and most complex instruments.
Barnhill School’s curriculum leader of science, Indra Ponnraj, was in the party that visited the site where Tim Berners-Lee founded the world wide web.
It is also where many Nobel Prize winners have carried out pioneering research leading to significant improvements for global healthcare, such as the introduction of MRIs.
Ms Ponnraj was part of a group of teachers being trained to explore ground-breaking scientific discoveries and how they can be translated into meaningful learning experiences for students.
She said: “Standing in the same room as Nobel prize winners and learning how to connect abstract concepts taught in physics lessons to real experiments leading to fundamental discoveries was one of the most privileged moments in my career.
“I am excited to implement my learning into the curriculum at Barnhill and help to nurture the best scientists of the future.”
