Ex-Army officer holds hunger strike against ULEZ expansion outside Uxbridge Station

In a display of dissent, Prabhdeep Singh, a former British army soldier, has taken to a tent outside Uxbridge Station to embark on a week-long hunger strike.

His protest is aimed squarely at the upcoming expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), a move that has sparked controversy and concerns among residents and commuters alike.

Speaking exclusively to Nigel Farage on GB News, Mr. Singh passionately stated, “The reason I am on hunger strike is just an indication to the people of Britain that this is what it is going to be like if we don’t fight back.

“While we are fighting against the poverty of the cost of living crisis, there is another burden on the people called ULEZ. This ULEZ is out of nowhere. We don’t need it. The people don’t want it.”

Via his website, Mr. Singh expressed his views further, asserting that “ULEZ is an extra burden on top of the sharp increase in living costs across the UK, and the world has seen many common and poor families struggle. This is Phase Two of a much larger campaign to come.”

Hailing from Uxbridge, Mr Singh’s demonstration is a sign of the growing dissatisfaction over Mayor Khan’s ULEZ expansion.

The scheme, set to launch on August 29th, will levy a daily charge of £12.50, potentially accumulating to around £4,500 annually for commuters and travellers heading to London for work.

In a tweet posted last month, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “Expanding the ULEZ was not an easy decision, but it will save lives.

“The easy decision would have been to kick the can down the road.

“But were we to do that, thousands more people would die prematurely.

“London deserves better than the dangerous, polluted air we have today.”

Undeterred by the potential health risks, Mr. Singh has committed to a complete fast for one week, consuming only water, as an act of defiance against the ULEZ expansion.
